George & The St. Charles
‘George & The St. Charles’ is a project surrounding my grandfather and his routines when watching his local football club Deal Town FC, highlighting both the quirks within my grandfather’s behaviour as well as the unique nature of lower league football. The project consists of environmental portraits and detail shots of the St. Charles Ground and its inhabitants. Accompanied by the hand written notes of my grandfather describing key moments from the 2021-22 season as well as from when he began following the club from before the 19070s.

‘Redevelopment’ documents the recent architectural changes in my hometown of Hawkinge in the South-East of England, prompted by a large industrial block laying dormant and then becoming repurposed into a block of residential flats. Using nighttime long-exposure photography paired with the lyrics of ‘Redevelopment’ by London-based indie-pop band Home Counties, this photographic project highlights the malleable nature of land and architecture in the hands of the controlling classes.
Redevelopment - Home Counties
Oak beams and cobbled streets were weathered
We to an imagined past are tethered
Those streets had not been there forever
Nostalgia can’t keep them together
Decay (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
Makes way (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
As we pave (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
Our way to a future of concrete anonymity
High-rise and underpasses weathered
Cladding couldn’t hold it all together
Estate torn down and multi-storey blown-up
Condemned as a 1960s hiccup
Decay (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
Makes way (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
As we build (Redevelop, Redevelopment)
A complex of unaffordable luxury apartments
History to memory is cuckhold
Progress and decay are but muddled
Nostalgia’s got us in a chokehold
All agreed we need to be bold
But if it’s not in our backyard then where’s it gonna be?
